Intermittent rain throughout the week raised questions among the drivers as to the conditions on the track but when the green flag dropped on Petaluma Speedway’s last race of the season the 22-car field found the 3/8-mile oval in superb shape.

“With so much rain we figured it would be rough, but it was in great shape, smooth and fast. We owe a lot of gratitude to (promoter) Jim Soares and his staff for working so hard to put in the track,” said Oroville’s Sean “The Shark” Becker after winning the 35-lap A-main and pocketing $2500 in the speedway’s annual, “Last Sprint Car Show”, season finale.

A former Golden State Challenge series champion and runner-up to Brent Kaeding this season, Becker, 26, added Saturday night’s victory to his sterling Petaluma resume that includes two GSC victories and a Civil War series second place.

A second row starter, Becker bolted past race leader Kyle Hirst on a Lap 4 restart and never looked back. He quickly opened a wide lead over the rest of the field and with the race running non-stop for the last 23 circuits Becker all but disappeared into lapped traffic.

“It was a pretty tough track to pass on, I wanted to stay close to the leader early so when the chance came I could make a move,” noted Becker.

In the battle for second place Hirst held the advantage over B-main winner Shane Golobic and fast qualifier Andy Gregg until Lap 33 when both drivers got by him. The 18-year-old Golobic, who led the 12-lap B-main from start to finish, collected $1500 for finishing second and Gregg, the Civil War series winner here in September, took home $1000 for third.

Rounding out the top 10 were Hirst, Willie Croft, Richard Bailey, Stan Yockey, B-main transfer Alissa Geving, Mark Hall, and 2007 Civil War champion Andy Forsberg.

Chasing Golobic to the flag in the 18-car B-main and making the transfer were Myles Bishop, Geving, Camron Mendes, Brent Bjork, and Roberto Kirby.

Heat race winners included Croft, Eric Humphries, Scott Russell, and Ricky Wondergem.
